History proves to us that wars, diseases, crimes and other monstrosities have always existed.
Destruction and scourge weaken our souls but never, never, not even like that, the world stopped! And it is in the context of ignorance of the future that each one clings to hope, some also to faith and thus each one lives as he knows and as he can. And it is following this perspective that the World continues to work and provide its services to all of us.
And in this sense, as in all businesses, Fashion cannot stop. It is a very strong industry and increasingly and always with more fans.
Since the beginning of the world, human beings have had to cover their bodies because it was instituted by social and coexistence laws.
Due to the cold or heat, he had to protect himself and so he began to make “clothes”. First with foliage, skins, rags”… until later it was improved and impelled by vanity , Fashions and Styles were developed.
Fashion thus becomes crucial to overcome needs or to enrich the creation of the dream of the perfect image. And so begins the Creation process.
And over the centuries we have been witnessing fashions dictated by the styles of the time that were also closely related to cultural development…. And for the story itself.
Without disdain for those left behind, the 18th, 19th and mid-20th centuries, each with its own characteristics, highlighted Fashion in such a way that it did not leave anyone indifferent.
However, fashion was not yet for everyone. It was still restricted to “fidalgos” and more favored because the fabrics were very expensive.
But the people immediately began to “ train the eye ” and to recognize beauty.
And, if today we seek to value 2nd Hand Fashion due to the “wounds” of the planet, at the time the same was already being done, reusing the suits and dresses of the most favored, recreating and adapting them for the whole family . Nothing was wasted. Even when the cloth was already very frayed and without any glamor, these parts were reinforced and textiles for the home were made from them.
The best fabrics and still with some "life", or appliqués, embroidery... or the fabrics were turned inside out and so many well-dressed men and women took to the streets with their 2nd Hand suit, all quaint, improved and proud of their figure.
Thus, and now for the best reasons that is the "Health of the Planet", and consequently our health, it becomes necessary to reformulate our shopping habits and concepts.
It was around 2009 that we started hearing about sustainable fashion. But in reality that term came to us so suddenly that it was not easy to absorb and understand at once what we were talking about. Several scientists studied the planet and realized that it was getting sick.
Then environmentalists arrived from all over the world to spread the theme of sustainability and the subject began to spread around the world. After all, nobody likes to be sick and the fact that the world we live in is really sick is not pleasant at all. For many people it is still not a concern, but it is undoubtedly a very serious matter that must be talked about.
Let's put things simply: the world is sick because of pollution, co2 emissions, abusive spending of water, rampant deforestation, population overcrowding,…..
It is urgent to treat THE WORLD that directly or indirectly affects all of us and that will certainly also influence our health and future generations.
For this, and with regard to fashion, it is up to us to explain a little of what we can and should do to reduce the damage thus facilitating the recovery, albeit slow, of the planet and going back to certain practices that come from ancient times as I mentioned there a moment ago.
If we think about it, sustainable clothing is that which already exists and seeking to develop its sustainability means, for example, using the same garment more often, washing less (which emphasizes water savings), more care in maintenance and when we keep it in our closet, the way we do.
But let's start with:
Recycle - imagine that your favorite dress no longer fits you, but the fabric is wonderful. So why not remake it for your granddaughter and even with what's left, make a little dress for your favorite doll?
And what about that fantastic discovery of bricks made from waste pressed fabric that could be a form of housing construction in the future? Or why not stuff your sofa cushions?
Up Cycling/Renovar - who doesn't have that blazer, which fits you like a glove, but by bad luck it ripped or got an incredible sauce that stained it all over? Well, there's nothing like applying an emblem or patch that you can paint or embroider yourself. This piece will be unique and will have a new life. It may even be responsible for a “new brand image”.
Reuse - And what are we going to do with those clothes that have become obsolete in our eyes and that not even the closet supports them anymore? So we can start by looking at them in a different way considering that vintage fashion is at its peak. This gives us the opportunity to experience a new concept. We can also offer it to someone who will, with your personality, give it a new life. Or else, destine this garment for sale, as we know that when buying the garment, however symbolic the amount may be, thought about whether they really wanted the garment or not and committed themselves, being more likely to put their new garment to use. deserve!
Repair/Restore - that shirt without a button, with commitment and creativity, can suddenly become a fashion “must” as a result of its repair magic. Put a new, different button, or assume this failure! Just like the shoes that crashed on a step! Do you think they will have to suffer the humiliation of going to waste? Nahhhhh, Nothing that a soft sandpaper, a good grease and an old flannel to pull the polish won't solve.
Reduction - and why not reduce the fast-fashion buying impulse? But since you need a “comfort”, at least use second-hand fashion! Have you checked out the second-hand stores and Retry? Most of the second-hand pieces are new, they could be perfectly in a store that would have the same shine.
With these measures, among many others, the landfills will become more deserted and the planet will thank you. We didn't cure him at all, but at least we gave him a good serum that helps a lot with his recovery.
See you soon!
